Invitations
Idea
#1
Using scroll or handmade paper,
handwrite in black ink the party details. Roll up the
invitations and tie with ribbon. Tie beads or charms with the
birthday boy's initials to the ends of the ribbon. You will
have to place these in a box for mailing to prevent the scroll from
being flattened. If you can afford it, consider
placing the scroll on a pillow in a box a royal and dramatic
effect.
Idea #2
Using
a simple fold invite, create a crest or Coat of Arms with his
initials and royal history. Place this on the cover of the
card and party information on the inside. If you have
envelopes already, measure the envelope first and then make the
invitation according to the envelope size. You can
see images of crests at http://www.4crests.com/.

Celebrate the Days of Yore With This Medieval
Menu

Many people are
looking for a new, more exciting party theme so give Medieval a try.
Year after year of the same basic party can become a drag, so why
not introduce some excitement with a medieval themed party complete
with medieval menu? Decorations and music can help set the mood, but
the proper selection of dishes will put your medieval themed party
over the top.
When one thinks medieval menu and drinks,
mead may come to mind. This fermented honey water is still available
in some regions. If this is not available, however, full-bodied red
wines and ales also conjure up images of great feast days in
medieval times. To keep the medieval feeling authentic, try throwing
the party without utensils. This will be far easier if the medieval
menu is planned accordingly. For an appetizer, skewer and slow roast
pork kabobs. Turkey legs are a great choice for a utensil-free main
course. Finish off the “hands-on” experience with a dessert of fruit
kabobs and whipped cream or crème fraiche.
To create a great crème fraiche for your
medieval menu, start with one cup of heavy whipping cream. Slowly
bring the cream to around 105 degrees Fahrenheit in a medium
saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of buttermilk.
Pour mixture into a large bowl and allow to stand in a warm place,
covered by plastic wrap until thickened but still pourable. This
process takes 24-36 hours. Stir and taste every 6-8 hours. The crème
fraiche is ready when thick and has a slightly sour taste. Chill for
several hours before serving. Crème fraiche can be kept in the
refrigerator for up to 10 days before the party.
With preparation in advance of the party,
your guests can feast on a medieval menu while you oversee the party
like the Lord or Lady of the house.
